Mr P was referred to the in-patient pain team 5 days into his admission following a minor fall. He was a 51-year-old gentleman with a long history of ankle problems following a motorcycle accident 15 years ago. His ongoing issues had resulted in multiple surgeries including an ankle arthrodesis 18 months before but he continued to attend the emergency department frequently with ankle pain.
On this admission, he had tripped over a kerb while intoxicated and sustained grazes to his hand and his elbow. His primary concern was excruciating pain in his ankle.
Before continuing, consider the following questions:
- Is there any other information you would like to know?
- Are there investigations that would be helpful?
